Acoustic barriers for rail

Railway noise has a different spectrum from road traffic, and is rated separately. NoiseBloc™ timber systems are among the few with published rail DLR ratings to BS EN 16272-2:2023.

Rail ratings, published

Premium TGV achieves DLR 28dB and Board & Batten 24dB for railway noise, tested by a UKAS-accredited laboratory to BS EN 16272-2:2023. The same tests give the one-third octave data your consultant needs.

Sound reduction index R (dB) by one-third octave band centre frequency (Hz). Laboratory values, reflective panels.

Typical rail applications

  • Housing and commercial boundaries next to railway lines.
  • Depots and sidings near homes.
  • Lineside works delivered by contractors with the appropriate rail accreditations.

Frequently asked questions

Which NoiseBloc system performs best for rail noise?

Premium TGV, with a rail DLR of 28dB to BS EN 16272-2:2023. Board & Batten achieves 24dB.

Why is rail DLR different from road DLR?

Railway noise has a different frequency spectrum from road traffic. BS EN 16272 weights the barrier's measured performance against a rail spectrum, so the same barrier can score differently for rail and road.
