Acoustic barriers for highways

Traffic noise is the most common reason for an acoustic barrier. NoiseBloc™ systems carry road traffic noise ratings to BS EN 1793-2 and are built for exposed roadside sites.

Roadside performance

  • Premium TGV: DLR 26dB road traffic noise. Board & Batten: DLR 23dB. Eco absorptive: DLR 30dB (manufacturer's data).
  • An absorptive Eco face helps where reflections back across the carriageway matter.
  • Steel UB posts sized for wind exposure on open roadside sites.
  • Timber systems tested to BS EN 1793-2 by a UKAS-accredited laboratory. NoiseBloc™ Eco is declared compliant with BS EN 14388:2005 by its manufacturer.

For work on the strategic road network, installation is carried out by contractors with the relevant highways accreditations.

Frequently asked questions

What rating should a roadside acoustic barrier have?

Road barriers are rated by DLR to BS EN 1793-2. NoiseBloc Premium TGV achieves 26dB, Board & Batten 23dB and Eco absorptive 30dB (manufacturer's data). Your acoustic consultant sets the requirement.

Reflective or absorptive for a road?

Reflective barriers suit most roads. An absorptive face, such as NoiseBloc Eco absorptive, helps where noise could reflect towards homes on the other side.
